Grit: having perseverance and passion for long-term goals.
Grit is living your life like it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Will Smith said it best, “Greatness is not this wonderful, esoteric, elusive, godlike feature that only the special among us will ever taste, it’s something that truly exists in all of us.” So, yes, it’s true, if you are willing to work for it.
Don’t give up. Take it from Shia Labeouf:
According to the author of the Strangest Secret, our thoughts have power. We become what we think about all day long. Your thoughts have power. We hear that all the time. Our thoughts brought us here and our thoughts can take us places. Now, if you don’t want to get too spiritual about it, the rational side of you should agree… Think about what you want to change and focus on that. Do you want to be Organized? Try changing your habits and work to become an organized person. Organize, organize, organize! Focus on what you want! Do you want to be happier? Let’s get Happy, happy, happy! Focus on what you know makes you even if starting isn’t easy. If you are a writer you should be thinking about writing and everything that revolves around your writing.
You should be writing.*
William James said that we need only in cold blood act as if the thing in question were real and it will become infallibly real, that it will become real. It will become laden with habit and emotion and belief. It will become us.
That is how winning is done.
* I should be writing.
If you want to be above average… if you want to have a skill that goes beyond that of normal ability… if you want to be amazing… practice your ass off.
Remember: those who are high in grit display continued determination and motivation despite setbacks, adversity, and failure.
Have some grit
